The Grundy County Health Department is teaming up with Cleaver Dermatology to bring free skin cancer screenings to community members this summer.
The event will be Friday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grundy County Health Department, 1716 Lincoln Street, Trenton. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a time, call 660-359-4196.
“We encourage anyone who has a spot or mole they've been wondering about to take advantage of this free opportunity,” said Elizabeth Gibson, Grundy County Health Center administrator. “Early detection makes all the difference, and this is an easy, no-cost way to get peace of mind.”
During the event, a Cleaver Dermatology physician will examine specific areas of skin that participants have identified as a concern. This is a screening only and is not a full-body exam, nor does it replace a comprehensive examination by a dermatologist.
Not sure whether a spot warrants attention? Know the ABCDEs of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Common warning signs include a mole or lesion that has an asymmetrical shape, irregular or poorly defined borders, variation in color, or a diameter larger than a pencil eraser. Any spot that is evolving — looks different from those around it or has been changing in size, shape, or color — is also worth having evaluated.
Appointments may fill quickly. Community members are encouraged to call ahead to secure a spot at 660-359-4196.
