The weather is becoming cooler and as people begin spending more time indoors, the incidence of respiratory viruses increases. The Grundy County Health Department offers vaccinations to protect you.

 

The Grundy County Health Department has flu vaccine for all ages including the high dose vaccine, for people age 65 and up. GCHD will offer adult flu shots on Fridays beginning on October 2; appointments are accepted but not required. Flu vaccination is also available on regular immunization days for children or adults, call for an appointment.

 

GCHD has COVID-19 vaccine available for individuals 65 and older or 18 to 64 with an underlying health condition. COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same time as the flu shot or separately.

 

Pneumonia vaccine is recommended for adults 50 years or older. The pneumonia vaccine was recently updated; adults should check with the Health Department or your healthcare provider to make sure you have had the most recent vaccine.

 

RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus. The virus poses risks for children under age 2 and older adults. RSV vaccine is recommended for adults age 75 and older, or individuals age 50-74 with certain medical conditions. Pregnant women and parents of young children should check with their provider about receiving the RSV vaccine. Gru

ndy County Health Department has RSV vaccine for children and adults who qualify. Adult RSV vaccination is covered by Medicare Part D.

 

Immunizations for adults and children are available by appointment. Individuals should bring their Medicare, Medicaid, or health insurance card for billing purposes. Vaccine is also available for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.
