CPR & First Aid Training



The Grundy County Health Department is offering American Heart Association Heartsaver courses this fall.


 All classes will be in the GCHD Annex Building, just west of the health department (1307 E. 17th Street). Registration is required by signing up online or by calling the health department at 660-359-4196. Registration link: https://form.jotform.com/242747689833171


The following courses will be offered:

  • Heartsaver CPR/AED & First Aid Course - October 9, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. $35 The AHA’s Heartsaver CPR/AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This course includes first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies.

  • Heartsaver CPR/AED Course (CPR and AED only),  October 16, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $35 The AHA’s Heartsaver CPR/AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

  • Heartsaver First Aid Course (First Aid only) - October 23, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. $25 The Heartsaver First Aid course trains participants first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including how to recognize them, how to call for help, and how to perform life-saving skills.


These courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card, or for anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Participants should be age 18 or older.


Course fees cover the cost of the materials and AHA certification.


Official certification will be provided by the American Heart Association. A certification card will be delivered to the participant via email upon successful completion of the course. Certification is valid for two years.



GCHD is also offering CPR and First Aid for healthcare workers and daycare providers.

American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) Renewal Course in Hybrid Format

Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare professionals trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality CPR, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

  2. In-person skills check-off session, October 11, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. $20; bring documentation of completed online education





Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid Class for Daycare Providers

This class will be offered on January 15-16, starting at 5:00 p.m. Attendance at both sessions is required for certification. The course fee is $35. This is for daycare providers needing pediatric certification in CPR, AED and First Aid. Online registration not available for this class, contact Val Kirby at 660-359-4196 to sign up.

Official certification is provided by the American Heart Association. An electronic certification card will be sent via email upon successful completion of the course.
