2020 Wellness Challenge
2020 Challenge Begins January 9
Would you like to "get healthier" in the new year? Sign-up for the 2020 Green Hills Wellness Challenge to get the extra motivation you need to achieve your weight loss goals.
Registration and initial weigh-in begins on Thursday, January 9 or Friday, January 10.
Registration locations are Ketcham Community Center or Grundy County Health Department during regular business hours.
Participants must be at least 18 years old to participate or have signed parental consent.
The entry fee is $10 per person.
The Challenge is 12 weeks and concludes on Friday, April 3.
Each person that loses 10% or more of their initial body weight at the final weigh-in will win a cash prize. The amount of money they receive will depend on the number of people that meet that goal. We will start with a base cash amount of $1500 (donated by the Grundy County Health Department). We will add to that a portion of the entry fees. If only one person loses 10% or more of their initial body weight, they win at least $1,500. If ten people lose 10% or more they each win $150. This means that everyone has the opportunity to win and you're only competing with yourself. In 2019, we had 23 winners, each pocketed $101 cash.
Participants from the 2019 Wellness Challenge are eligible to win a $300 maintenance prize. This prize will be awarded to the person that has maintained the highest percentage of weight loss throughout the year. Weigh-ins for the maintenance prize will also be held on January 9 and 10 at the Grundy County Health Department and the Ketcham Community Center during regular business hours.
You are automatically entered in the maintenance competition if you participated last year and sign up again this year. There is no fee to weigh in for the maintenance competition only.
All weights should be taken with shoes off.
You must weigh-in each week to be eligible for cash prize. Each participant will be allowed to miss one weekly weigh-in with no penalty. Prize drawings will be held weekly among all participants that weigh-in that week.
All actual weights will be kept confidential.
Total percentage of weight loss for each participant will run weekly in the Trenton Republican-Times newspaper. If no weight loss occurs or if weight remains the same a "--" will run next to participant name.
Keeping a nutrition and exercise journal is one of the best strategies to take weight off and keep it off. Participants are encouraged to keep a journal throughout the challenge--we'll provide a paperback journal at registration or you can use a smartphone app. Participants that turn in journals at the end of the contest will be entered into a drawing for two 1-year memberships to Ketcham Community Center and two 1-year subscriptions to Trenton Republican-Times.
