Wellness Challenge Begins January 10


The 12th Annual Green Hills Wellness Challenge begins Thursday, January 10.

The Challenge is designed to help you get and stay motivated in your quest to drop a few pounds and get a healthy start in 2019.

Register and weigh-in at the Ketcham Community Center or the Grundy County Health Department on Thursday, January 10 or Friday, January 11. The challenge runs 12 weeks and concludes on Friday, April 5. There is a $10 entry fee for each participant. Participants must be 18 years of age to

There are lots of ways to win:

  • Participants that lose 10% of their initial body weight will split the prize pool. The Grundy County Health Department contributes $1500 to the pool and adds a portion of the entry fees. Last year's winners split $2250 and each took home $90 cash.

  • Weekly drawings are held for all participants that weigh-in each week.

  • Participants that keep a diet and exercise journal are entered into a drawing for two Ketcham memberships and two Republican-Times newspaper subscriptions.

  • A maintenance prize of $300 is awarded to the participant from the 2018 challenge that maintained the highest percentage of weight loss from last year's competition.

This year the University of Missouri Extension is joining the effort and offering a free course entitled Eating Smart, Being Active. The course features nine sessions focusing on nutrition, physical activity, food safety, and making the most of your food dollars. Classes begin on January 18. Click here to download the flyer.
